The Sony Ericsson AINO ? Outstanding Firsts in a Smartphone
Firsts in the Industry
The Aino is a welcome addition to the SE stable as it leverages Sony Ericsson tradition for technical and design excellence for its walking and Cybershot family of mobile phones.
Sony Ericsson’s Aino finally adopts the industry standard microSD rather than continue with its proprietary memory sticks that are always the most expensive per MB out there. The user interface is unique as it offers both touchscreen functionality and slider keypads for navigating the various phone functions. The 3” LCD screen becomes a touchscreen in the media mode while the slider keypad provides typical non-touchscreen control. This is a first for a slider phone. Sony Ericsson did have a similar scheme in its P990i model years ago. This is the first Sony Ericsson phone, and the first mobile entertainment gadget to feature remote control integration with the Sony PS3 gaming and Blu-ray console. Its Remote Play features effectively make the Aino handset a client to view streaming audio and video files from the PS3 via the high internet connection enabled by its high speed data connectivity.
Outstanding Smartphone Multimedia and Imaging Features
The Aino comes with Cybershot-pedigreed 8.1 megapixel camera, one of the few high end smartphones in the market today. LED flash, auto focus and red-eye reduction features are standard. There’s also Image and video stabilization as well as face and smile shutter detection.
Its Walkman-based multimedia player supports all the popular audio and video codecs in the market. It still doesn’t support 3.5mm audio jack, but the Aino comes with high quality proprietary earphones as well as Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support for the new breed of wireless stereo earphones.
The Aino is basically a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE with support for 3G/HSPDA/HSUPA, WLAN and Wi-Fi, making it a formidable communications tool for fast and reliable online surfing and emailing for both home and business. Internal phone memory gets an ample 55Mb that can get to 16Gb with its microSD slot. Battery life is respectable, providing one of the best talk times for feature-rich mobiles at 13 hours.
Merging its unique and standard mobile phone features, the Sony Ericsson Aino is one great smartphone to remember when shopping for truly amazing entertainment and communications tools.
